Strategic Trap: The U.S., Ukraine, and the European Dilemma

There has been a considerable amount of activity and announcements over the last few days pertaining to American final efforts to effectively steal Ukraine’s mineral and energy wealth as compensation for the billions of dollars of aid provided under the Biden administration in the war effort against Russia. However, as has been analysed previously, the US and Zelensky have fallen out over American refusal to provide security guarantees to Ukraine to prevent Russia from renewing any further escalation and takeover. The political statements coming out of the White House threatening to pull out of the negotiations, are part and parcel of the pressure and trap that the American’s have set for Ukraine and Europe.

This is because the mineral wealth as some esperts have pointed out, may not be as substantial as indicated and is being used as a cover to force Ukrainian capitulation to Russia on Crimea, the territory seized in Ukraine, the blocking of Ukraine becoming a NATO member, and the removal of Zelensky . So, either the Ukrainians will agree to the capitulation both on the minerals and Russian positions without US security guarantees, or the US will pull out, with both options removing America from the theatre and sucking in Europe’s military and economic resources into a quagmire without NATO support, which will leave Russia as a permanent threat. Hence, there is a clear method behind the confusion, which is the trap being set for Europe and Ukraine, and one which will not affect the American policy to lure Russia away from China, through bilateral develpment and removal of sanctions, consolidated by Washington’s demonstration to Russia of its seriousness in addressing the China challenge. This issue has been further consolidated by American refusal to criticise Russia at any level with respect to her continuing attacks on Ukraine, even putting the blame onto Zelensky.

As for Zelensky, he knows that he is now between a rock and hard place. If he accepts the mineral deal/energy theft without security guarantees and the Russia’s land annexation, then he will have seen to have sold out Ukraine’s sovereignty to the American’s and will be removed internally. If, he doesn’t then the US will give Russia full license to take Ukraine completely, whilst fomenting divisions within Europe and the European Union, and with the knowledge that Europe does not have the financial or military capacity to replace the US and NATO.
